Managing Information news - helping you perform.
Information Managers, Knowledge Managers, Chief Information Officers and librarians need to keep up-to-date and have a good in-depth knowledge of issues relating to information management. We at Aslib understand those issues better than most and can help you keep abreast of latest developments and their implications. Managing Information continues its successful track record of bringing you practical solutions, best practice, news, analysis, campaigning and lobbying activities.
These are exciting and dynamic times in information management with Web/Library 2.0, information literacy, the need to leverage intellectual property assets, regulatory compliance requirements all leading to an ever greater need for leadership in information and knowledge management. Managing Information helps readers deliver that leadership.
Subscribers gain all the benefits of the melting pot of ideas you get from attending a first class conference, without the expense and travel involved in attending! ECJ Court Advisor Says Poem Infringed Database Right – Out-Law Report
European Court of Justice Advocate General Eleanor Sharpston has issued her opinion that DirectMedia Publishing has infringed a German University’s database right by publishing an anthology of poems all but 20 of which appear on a database of the most important poems in German. An Advocate General’s opinion is only a guide for the ECJ, but opinions are followed in 80% of cases, so the opinion is seen by Out-Law as potentially strengthening database right. |

DIUS Higher Education Blog Launched On JISC Platform
To gain opinions and views for the Department for Innovation, Universities and Skills on its higher education debate - JISC will be hosting a blog on its JISC Involve platform.
The Secretary of State for Innovation, Universities and Skills (DIUS), John Denham launched a debate on Higher Education, in February 2008 when he announced the intention to develop a framework for Higher Education for the next ten to fifteen years.
He said that we in the UK, "need to decide what a world-class HE system of the future should look like, what it should seek to achieve, and establish the current barriers to its development.”
A number of individuals and organisations were invited to make personal contributions to this debate on relevant themes, with a view to informing and stimulating thinking on the future of higher education. "Social media offers new opportunities to be innovative in how DIUS engages with people interested in higher education issues in the UK."
Vincent McGovern, Stakeholder Community Manager at DIUS explains; “However, the desire for input which will inform decisions doesn't end there. The views of a wider spectrum of interested individuals is also sought.
“Social media offers new opportunities to be innovative in how DIUS engages with people interested in higher education issues in the UK and we’re hoping that people will let us know their views via the ‘future of higher education’ blog.” |
