New Award Scheme For Legal Information Professionals
The British & Irish Association of Law Librarians (BIALL) and LexisNexis Butterworths have joined forces to launch a new award scheme that honours the dedicated work of legal information professionals, and recognises the best use of technology in a library project.
The BIALLY LexisNexis Butterworths Awards for Excellence 2005 are calling now on librarians working in law firms, law school libraries and related alternative libraries to nominate themselves or an admired colleague. Nominees will be judged on how well they have faced the challenges of running a law library, demonstrated excellence and contributed to the success of their organisation. The technology award will recognise innovation in developing the potential for technology-based tools within the world of legal information.
Launching the BIALL Y LexisNexis Butterworths Awards for Excellence, Susan Doe, Immediate past Chair of BIALL and Information & Research Manager at Sidley Austin Brown & Wood, says: "This is a unique scheme that will help to further enhance the professionalism and status of the legal information profession in Britain and Ireland."
The judging panel will consist of BIALL's President, Barbara Tearle, and BIALL's Vice Chair, Roger Cook, together with Susan Doe; the judges from LexisNexis Butterworths are Publishing Director, Nicola Briggs, and Channel Director, Martin Casimir.
There are two categories for entry in the BIALL Y LexisNexis Butterworths Awards for Excellence 2005: Legal Information Professional (Three awards will be made in this category: for information professionals working in small/medium law firms, large law firms and special libraries) and The Best Use of Technology in a Library Project.
BIALL and LexisNexis Butterworths will be hosting the Awards for Excellence ceremony on the evening of 14 October at Lincoln's Inn. The deadline for Award nominations is 16 September 2005. Entry details and nomination criteria can be obtained from the BIALL website (http://www.biall.org.uk/home.asp?id=n102).
