CILIP invites nominations for Honorary Fellowships
CILIP: the Chartered Institute of Library and Information Professionals is inviting nominations for the award of Honorary Fellowship (Hon FCLIP) - the highest award that the Institute confers.
The Hon FCLIP marks distinguished service in promoting the purpose and objects of CILIP, as outlined in its Charter - and it is open to individuals both within and beyond the CILIP community.
"We would particularly like to encourage nominations of individuals from beyond the CILIP community," says CILIP's Chief Executive Bob McKee. "Hon FCLIPs certainly reward distinguished service by people within the library and information community itself - but we would also like to celebrate outstanding contributions from those in other professions and disciplines who champion the library and information cause."
Such contributions might include promoting self-directed learning, championing freedom of information, raising the esteem of the profession in the knowledge economy or the information society, or working to improve general standards of information literacy, Dr McKee suggests. "However this is not an exclusive list," he adds. "The scope for outstanding contributions to CILIP's aims is vast."
Only existing Members of the Institute are entitled to make personal nominations for Honorary Fellowships, but nominations may also be made by Branches, Groups or committees and subcommittees of Council. Nominators are requested to give the reasons for their nomination, together with supporting information on the nominee, which could include biographical information, details of the work or project that constitutes the outstanding contribution, publications or media coverage.
The deadline for nominations is Tuesday 20 May 2003. All nominations will then be considered by CILIP's Executive Board and by Council, and the Honorary Fellowships will be awarded at CILIP's annual Members' Day on Thursday 23 October 2003.
Nomination forms can be downloaded from CILIP's web site and are also available by post from CILIP. For a copy of the form, go to www.cilip.org.uk/member/nominations.html
